Why Christians Don’t Keep The Sabbath
Jul 6, 2013
For all those who still believe that CHRIST Did Not Nail The 10 Commandments and the other 603 commandments of the law of Moses to the cross, this article was written just for you.
If you still believe that JESUS Did Not Have The Power To End the entire law of Moses, this article was written just for you.
If you believe that the Sabbath is required for Christians to observe today, this article was written just for you.
The Law of Moses Has Been Abolished
The
10 Commandments, were “written and engraved on stones.” and the Torah
was written in ink by the hand of Moses at the dictation of GOD.
However, the New Covenant of CHRIST Was “Written not with ink, but with
The SPIRIT of The LIVING GOD; not in tables of stone, but in tables that
are hearts of flesh” (2 Cor. 3:3). Furthermore, what was written on
stone (The 10 Commandments), was a killing law, for it led to death
because of human disobedience, while The New Covenant of The SPIRIT Is A
Life-Giving Ministration (2 Cor. 3:7). In that same context, Paul says
that this old covenant has passed away; it has been replaced by that
which possesses a greater and superior glory (2 Cor.3:11). The law of
Moses has been abolished: having abolished in the flesh the enmity, even
the law of commandments contained in ordinances; that HE Might Create In HIMSELF of the two one new man, so making peace (Eph. 2:15). CHRIST
through His Cross, “Blotted Out the bond written in ordinances” of the
old law: ” Having Blotted Out the bond written in ordinances that was
against us, which was contrary to us: and HE Has Taken it Out of the
way, Nailing it to the cross” (Col. 2:14). Therefore, the Sabbath law,
along with the entire law of Moses was taken away by the Cross of JESUS.
The Sabbath Was Given To The Hebrews
The Sabbath was given to the Hebrews to help them remember their own experience in Egypt: “And you shall remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and JEHOVAH your GOD Brought you Out of there by a Mighty Hand and by an Outstretched Arm: therefore JEHOVAH your GOD Commanded you to keep the Sabbath day” (Deut. 5:15). It was a unique sign between GOD and the children of Israel: “Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath through-out their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between ME and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days JEHOVAH Made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day HE Rested, and was Refreshed” (Exod. 31:16-17).
However, Israel broke their covenant that GOD Made With them, and GOD Divorced her for their infidelity. Jer 3 Eventually, GOD Broke His Covenant HE Made With Israel. Is it not written in the book of Zechariah, “I took my staff, Beauty, and cut it in two, that I Might Break the covenant which I Had Made with all the peoples.” Zech 11:10 This GOD Did when Judas Iscariot betrayed CHRIST for 30 pieces of silver, and delivered our LORD To Be Crucified. Zech 11:12-14 Therefore, there is not one commandment in the new testament for any Christian to keep the Sabbath nor any of the law of Moses, for it was never for Gentiles, nor was it ever practiced by the church for which CHRIST purchased with His Own Blood. Acts 20:28
The Sabbath Was Forbidden To Gentile Christians
In
Paul’s epistle to the Galatians he stated that the law of Moses was not
to be seen as binding upon the church. He warned Christians not to be
entangled again in a yoke of bondage (Gal. 5:1), but to continue in the
freedom from the law of Moses which JESUS Had Wrought upon the Cross.
Since circumcision was the main issue in Galatians, other facts are
often ignored, such as his condemnation of observance of the Jewish holy
days: “You observe days, and months, and seasons, and years. I am
afraid of you, unless by any means I have bestowed labor upon you in
vain” (Gal. 4:10-11). The Sabbath was one of those Jewish holy days to
which he makes reference.
The Sabbath Was Revealed At Sinai, Not At The Creation
It
is often alleged that the Sabbath was given at the creation for all men
of all times to observe. However, the Sabbath was not revealed until
the Law was given by Moses to Israel at Sinai. The book of Nehemiah
acknowledges this in the 9th chapter: “YOU Came Down also upon mount
Sinai, and Spoke With them from heaven, and Gave them right ordinances
and true laws, good statutes and commandments, and Made Known Unto them
YOUR Holy Sabbath, and commanded them commandments, and statutes, and a
law, by Moses your servant” (Neh. 9:13-14). Moses, who revealed the
Sabbath to the people at Sinai, explained its having been “hallowed” by
GOD in his narrative about the creation in Genesis 2:1-3. He does not
say in Genesis that it was hallowed then, only that GOD Rested then, and
hallowed it later at Sinai. If it had been hallowed and commanded at
the creation, why did none of the patriarchs (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob,
Joseph etc.) ever observe it?
Christians Are Not To Be Judged By Jewish Laws
The New Testament requirements are the basis of our judgment, not those things found in the Old Testament. The Old Testament legislation was requisite for Hebrews living under that covenant; we are not to be judged by these “shadows”: “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day: which are a shadow of the things to come; but the Body is CHRIST’S” (Col. 2:16-17). Paul’s greatest warning against justifying ourselves by any law of the old testament was written to the Galatians when he said, “You have become estranged From CHRIST, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from Grace.” Gal 5:4 Paul made it clear that the keeping of any old testament law (including the Sabbath) was contrary to the doctrine of CHRIST.
When The Sabbath Ended
The prophet Amos prophesied of the end of the Sabbath. The question was asked, “When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the Sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?” Amos 8:5 GOD Answered by means of the prophet Amos who said, “It shall come to pass in that day, Says The LORD GOD, that I WILL Cause the sun to go down at noon, and I WILL Darken the earth in the clear day: And I WILL Turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; …and I WILL Make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.” The day JESUS Died the sun went down at noon (the 6th hour of a Jewish day) and remained dark for the space of 3 hours, (Mt 27:45) and truly all the saints of GOD mourned the death of the Only Begotten SON of GOD, JESUS CHRIST. This was the moment that the Sabbath ended, and as Paul wrote, “nailed it to the cross”. Col 2:14
Christians Worship On Sunday
On the day of Pentecost, which always occurred on Sunday, the gospel was first preached, wherein, that is, about 3,000 souls were saved by water and added to The Lord’s church, the church of CHRIST. Acts 2
Sunday
was the Day of our LORD’S Resurrection (John 20:1). It was Sunday which
early Christians assembled to worship and remember The LORD’S Death and
Resurrection (Acts 20:7). On Sunday they gave of their means (1 Cor.
16:1-2). In the Old Testament the Sabbath was a day of holy convocation
and assembly (Lev. 23:3-15). In the New Testament Christians are never
seen observing this day or meeting in such convocations, except to teach
and convert Jews in their own meetings. Christians worshiped on the
first day of the week, the day we call Sunday, since Sabbath celebration
ended for them with The LORD’S Death on the cross. No Christian in the
new testament were commanded to remember the Sabbath, nor told to
remember how GOD delivered Israel out of the hands of the Egyptians. How
could they, for GOD never delivered the Gentiles from the slavery of
the Egyptians. This privilege was given to Israel and Israel only.
Christians are commanded to remember The LORD’S Death each Sunday by
partaking of the communion, for in doing this they do show The LORD’S Death Until HE Comes. 1 Cor 11:24-26.
