The Genesis creation account states that human beings were made in the image of God. GENESIS 1:26-27 RECORDS AS FOLLOWS; 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Do you believe God, the Spirit has an image and likeness? Yes, you should do. The Bible says that God created us in His own image and likeness. What do the image and likeness mean? They are IMAGE AND LIKENESS as have been said. I carry an image of a middle-to-old aged Korean man with grey hair and physical likeness of my parents. You have your own image and likeness too. When the Triune God(Father, Son and Holy Spirit) created mankind, He decided to do that in His own image and likeness. It's fortunate for me not to have an image and likeness of chimpanzee, orangutan and other creatures. That's reason why God forbids us from making any images for whoshiping. See Exodus 20:4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.Deuteronomy 4:16 reads, 'so that you do not become corrupt and make for yourselves an idol, an image of any shape, whether formed like a man or a woman'. This fact sets humans apart from animals and the rest of creation. Also the sanctity of human life comes from this truth that God made humanity in His holy image and likeness. If anyone kills other human he/she should pay for it only by his or her own life. Even the ancient Babylonian Hammurabi Codes defines it, "eye for an eye, life for a life." Refer to Genesis 9:6 says, “Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind. Further, this truth makes us better understand why the works of Redemption, Atonement and Substitutional Death of Christ for the sinners was done only by shedding God's own blood on the Golgotha(Calvory). Without blood shedding, there will be no remission of sin in God's mind. Then what can be meant by 'the image and likeness of God'? Christians have discussed exactly what this means for centuries. IMAGE CAN BE A PERSONHOOD OF GOD and LIKENESS the PHYSICAL APPEARNACE OF God. How do we understand God's image in His Personhood and His likeness in apprearance? I believe there will be no other way for us to achieve this goal than except by knowing God the Son, Jesus Christ, who is an 'IMAGE AND LIKENESS OF GOD'.Colossians 1:15 reads; 'The Son is the IMAGE of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.' Let's follow Jesus, the Image and Likeness of God Himself. He is the way, the truth and the life for all of us. Gloria Dei! Amen and amen!
