Isaiah 42:8 says;
“I am JEHOVAH; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.”
‘I am Jehovah’ - אני יהוה (ani Yehovah). This is the famous ‘tetragrammaton’ or name of four letters יהוה, which we write Jehovah, Yehovah, Yehveh, Yeveh, Jhuh, Javah, etc.
The Jews never pronounce יהוה literally because the Name of God is so holy and read ‘Adonai’(Lord, Master) instead, and the true pronunciation is unknown.
In Exodus 6:31 God told Moses;
“ I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El-Shaddai--'God Almighty'--but I did not reveal my name, Yahweh, to them.”
The name ‘Jehovah’ signifies ‘being’, or ‘essential existence’. King James Version translates ‘I AM That I AM’ (Exodus 3:14). ‘I AM’ is the Great Name which is given to none but the True God, Jehovah and which is everywhere in the Scriptures used to distinguish Him from all others.
Jehovah God says, “I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.”
That justifies the reason why God’s children should give glory only to God the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit and worship Him alone.
We should not seek glory or praise which is ascribed to God. Satan tried to steal God’s glory and became ‘the evil one’ who is doomed to eternal judgment from God.
Don’t we hear an angel say in a loud voice, flying in midair, and having the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth--to every nation, tribe, language and people;
"Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.” (Revelation 14:7)
Lord Jesus, do not give us glory.
Let the True God the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit only be exalted and glorified in our body, either by life or by death. Amen.
