ἐκκλησία(ekklēsía - Church)

I missed an eye-opening saying of the Apostle Paul in Acts 20:28 when I quoted this verse in my previous posting, ‘Great Sheperd.’

In Acts 20:28, we find God’s Word saying that the Church was bought with God’s Own Blood. What a statement we have in the Bible!

“Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which He bought with His Own Blood.

Our Lord said in Matthew 16:18;

“And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. (καγὼ δέ σοι λέγω ὅτι σὺ εἶ Πέτρος καὶ ἐπὶ ταύτῃ τῇ πέτρᾳ οἰκοδομήσω μου τὴν ἐκκλησίαν καὶ πύλαι ᾅδου οὐ κατισχύσουσιν αὐτῆς).

I got some help from Strong’s Greek Concordance:

The English word "church" comes from the Greek word ‘kyriakos, "belonging to the Lord" (kyrios). ekklēsía ("church") is the root of the terms "ecclesiology" and "ecclesiastical."

ἐκκλησία(ekklēsía ek, "out from and to" and kaléō, "to call") – properly, people called out from the world and to God, the outcome being the Church (the mystical body of Christ) – i.e. the universal (total) body of believers whom God calls out from the world and into His eternal kingdom.

You and I are the ‘Church’ because we belong to the Lord Jesus and called out of the darkness and brought into the Kingdom of the Light. He bought us, the Church with His Own Son’s Blood. He paid the price of our sins on the cross with His Blood and the Father takes it paying with His Blood. We all know God is Spirit Who has no blood and flesh that’s the reason why God became flesh to die on the Calvary.

I have absolutely no intention to sacrifice my son’s life for other evil people but God did for us!

Ephesians 5:8 tells us;

“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.”

Thank You Lord Jesus for shedding Your Own Blood on the cross to save us. "Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb." Amen.
