Korean False Messiah Dies

GAPYEONG, South Korea (BP) -- Sun Myung Moon, founder and leader of the Unification Church and self-proclaimed messiah, died Sept. 3 in Gapyeong, South Korea, following complications from pneumonia. He was 92.

Moon officially began the Unification Church in 1954 in Seoul, South Korea. He claimed that decades earlier Jesus appeared to him and asked him to finish the work Jesus' crucifixion had prevented.

In 1982, he was convicted of tax evasion and spent 18 months in a U.S. federal prison. One son was killed in a car accident in 1988 and another son committed suicide in 1999.

Moon and his second wife Hak Ja Han claimed to be the "True Parents," the ones who would provide physical salvation through themselves and their children, collectively known as the "True Family."

The Bible says in 2 John 1:7;

“I say this because many deceivers have gone out into the world. They deny that Jesus Christ came in a real body. Such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist”.

Anyone who did not profess and preach the doctrine of Christ, respecting Him as the Son of God, and Salvation by Him Only from guilt and sin, were not to be noticed. Yet in obeying this command, we must show kindness and a good spirit to those who differ from us in lesser matters, but hold firmly the all-important doctrines of Christ's person, atonement, and holy salvation.

Lord Jesus, we do believe and confess that You Only are the True Christ (Messiah) and the Son of the Living God, but no one else who claims to be.  Amen. Come quickly , Lord Jesus!
