Left Alone but Not Lonely

We just came back from the trip to Davis, Stockton, California where three of our children stay for their education. On the way home, we felt so sad to have left them behind us and we prayed to Jesus for their safety and protection.

I would have said to them.

“When you are left alone, you are not lonely because you have fellowship with the Lord and God, Jesus Christ.”

We read in, Mark 1:35;

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.”

Observe the important lessons here:

1. that the Saviour, though perfectly Holy, regarded the duty of secret prayer as of great importance.

2. that He, sought a solitary place for it - far away from the world and even from His disciples.

3. that it was early in the morning - always the best time, and a time when it should not be omitted.

4. if Jesus prayed, how much more important is it for us!

Our Lord departed into a solitary place, and there He prayed; as man, to His God and Father. It may be for His disciples He had lately chosen; for Himself, as man, that He might be strengthened as such for service; and for success in His ministry, and that His Gospel might run and be glorified; He chose a desert, and solitary place, for the sake of retirement, from the crowd of people that attended at Peter's door; where He could not be alone, and in private, and as most suitable for prayer. His early and private devotion may be an example to us.

Lord Jesus, be with us always even to the end of this world because You are “Immanuel (God-with-us)” for all of us. Amen.
