Light of Life

Can human exist without the sun (light)?

Generally speaking, No... Plants need the sun, plants give out oxygen in which we breathe.
No sun -> no plants -> no oxygen -> no humans -> no life

Yet science is finding ways to blur the edges of our understanding. Apparently, not all energy is derived from the sun after all. According to the 1st site below, recently discovered..."photosynthetic bacteria may get all the light they need for metabolism from the dim radiation emitted by deep-sea hydrothermal vents. ...suggesting the possibility of life in other sunless environments, such as Jupiter's moon Europa."

An ecosystem discovered 2.8 kilometers underground in the Mponeng Gold Mine near Johannesburg, South Africa two years ago has now been shown to comprise only a single species of microbe, existing on energy from radioactivity, completely independently of the Sun. The community of rod-shaped bacteria of the species Desulforudis audaxviator was discovered in 2005-06.

This ecosystem uses the energy of naturally occurring radioactivity to split water into hydrogen and hydrogen peroxide. The hydrogen peroxide reacts with naturally occurring sulfide in the rocks to make sulfate. The microbes then reduce the sulfate back to sulfide using electrons provided by the hydrogen left over from the splitting of water. This is the only ecosystem known to exist on an energy source other than light or chemical energy derived from the planet itself.

The species name, audaxviator, is taken from Jules Verne’s “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” and means “descend, bold traveler, and attain the center of the Earth.”

The Bible says we cannot live without the Light of Life, Jesus Christ. We all die without Him because He is the Life–giving Light for men shining in the darkness.

John 1:4

“In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.”

John 8:12

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.””

O Lord Jesus, You are the Way, the Truth, the Life. Shine forth the Light of Life so we can walk in the Light, not in the darkness. Thank You for giving us the Life in You. Praise Yeshua!
