Now He had to go through Samaria. So He came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as He was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.”
Christ's road from Judea to Galilee lay through Samaria. We have here our Lord Jesus under the common fatigue of travelers. Being tired, he sat down by the well. Therefore we know that He was truly a man. Also, He was a poor man, and went all His journeys on foot.
Our Lord Jesus had no horse or donkey to ride on except when He entered Jerusalem to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet in Zechariah 9:9;
“Say to the Daughter of Zion,
‘See, your King comes to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”
Lord Jesus, You are the Creator of all things in the universe. You will ride on the cloud when You come again to judge the evil world as prophesied in Isaiah 19:1;
“This message came to me concerning Egypt: Look! The LORD is advancing against Egypt, riding on a swift cloud. The idols of Egypt tremble. The hearts of the Egyptians melt with fear.”
Jehovah (Jesus) rides upon clouds when He is about to reveal Himself in His judicial majesty. Amen.
