Come Before Winter

Recently the weather here in central California gets colder and we see the snow-capped mountains with high elevations. But it is not that bad compared with that of the regions dipping below zero in other states.

When I saw the photo image above taken in China, it reminded me of the passage in 2 Timothy 4.

In one of Paul’s last days in a prison of Rome around 67 AD, he wrote to Timothy;

2 Timothy 4:13

“When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, and my scrolls, especially the parchments.”

Φαιλονου(phailonou), a traveling cloak, used for protection against stormy weather.

2 Timothy 4:21

“Make every effort to come before winter.”

Paul charges Timothy to come to Rome to see him before winter comes because the apostle’s time was uncertain and sailing in the Mediterranean Sea was very dangerous in winter.

It is the best prayer we can offer for our Christian brothers and sisters that the Lord Jesus Christ may be with their spirits and protect them while in service to the Lord’s work around the world.  Many who had suffered for the Lord’s mission are now before the Throne of God, giving glory to their Lord. May we be followers of them?
