Jesus Comforts His Disciples
John 14:1-4 NIV
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in Me.
2 In My Father’s House are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Jesus the Way to the Father
5Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
“I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. 7 If you really knew Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him.”
8Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9Jesus answered: “Don’t you know Me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in Me? The words I say to you are not just My own. Rather, it is the Father, living in Me, Who is doing His Work.
11Believe Me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.
12I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in Me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
13 And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14You may ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it.
Verse 1: “In My Father’s House are many rooms.”
Christ’s Word refers to the assurance He had of dwelling in the House not made with hands, eternal, in the Heavens, Christ’s Father’s House, in which are many mansions, sure dwellings, and quiet resting places for His people, and that to all eternity.
I do not know how many rooms but I do know there are many enough rooms (or mansions) for you and me to reside in our Heavenly Father’s House. I believe Jesus knows how to build because He was a carpenter while on earth.
Psalmists longed for it 3,000 years ago.
“Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the House of Jehovah forever.”
“Blessed are those who dwell in Your House; they are ever praising You.” Selah
Verse 6: “I am The Way and The Truth and The Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
I am The Way - That leads to the Father: The Truth that teaches the knowledge of God, and directs in the way: The Life that gives life to all those who seek and serve Him, and which is to be enjoyed eternally.
Christ is the Way:
1. By His doctrine, John 6:68.
2. By His example, 1 Peter 2:21.
3. By His sacrifice, Hebrews 9:8, Hebrews 9:9.
4. By His Spirit, John 16:13.
He is the Truth:
1. In opposition to all false religions.
2. To the Mosaic Law, which was only the shadow, not the truth or substance, of the good things which were to come. And
3. In respect to all the promises of God, 2 Corinthians 1:20.
He is the Life:
In Grace He saves from death and gives eternal life.
In Judgment He destroys it by throwing into the Lake of Fire.
