Revelation 20:11-15 NIV
The Dead Are Judged
11 Then I saw a Great White Throne and Him Who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from His presence, and there was no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the Throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.
13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done.
14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.
15 If anyone’s name was not found written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Book of Life
In Christianity and Judaism, the Book of Life (Hebrew: ספר החיים, transliterated Sefer HaChaim) is the book in which God records the names of every person who is destined for Heaven or the World to Come.
In the Old Testament, the Book of Life is the book or muster-roll of God, in which all the people who are considered righteous before God are recorded forever. God has such a book, and to be blotted out of it, signifies death.
The following passages mention about the Book of Life.
“He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the Book of Life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and His angels.”
“But now, please forgive their sin - but if not, then blot me out of the Book You have written.”
“May they be blotted out of the Book of Life and not be listed with the righteous.”
“However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written (i.e. in the Book of Life) in Heaven.”
This book is probably identical with the “Book of Remembrance” in which are recorded the deeds of those that fear the Lord.
“Then those who feared Jehovah spoke with each other, and Jehovah listened to what they said. In His presence, a Scroll of Remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared Him and always thought about the Honor of His Name.”
We want to be remembered when we honor Your Holy Name when we pray and praise You.
How excellent and magnificent Your Name is to our ear, Lord!
Your Name is the Sweetest of all names on earth and in heaven. All knees will bow down before Your beautiful Name, Jesus!
