Paul's Prayer for Us

2 Thessalonians 1:1-12 NIV

1Paul, Silasa and Timothy,
To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
2Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thanksgiving and Prayer

3We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters,b and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing. 4Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.

5All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the Kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. 6God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with His powerful angels. 8He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the Glory of His Might 10on the day He comes to be glorified in His holy people and to be marveled at among all those who have believed. This includes you, because you believed our testimony to you.

11With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of His calling, and that by His power He may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.

12 We pray this so that the Name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.c

Greek :  κατὰ τὴν χάριν τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν καὶ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.

That the name of the Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you; This is the end of the apostle's prayer, and which is answered by the fulfillment of the things prayed for; as the Name of Christ and His Gospel are dishonored, by the unbelief, cowardice and the unworthy walk of professors; so they are glorified in and by the saints, by their faith, patience, and good works in this world; which not only themselves adorn the doctrine of God our Savior, but cause others to glorify Him likewise; and Christ will be glorified in them.

And you in Him; that is, the saints are now glorified in Him as their Head and representative, being raised together and made to sit together in heavenly places in Him; and when the work of grace is finished upon their souls, they will be glorified together with Him and by Him; and in the resurrection morn shall appear in glory with Him both in soul and body, and shall be made like Him, and everlastingly enjoy Him and see Him as He is."

According to the grace of our God, and the Lord Jesus Christ; according to the grace and free favor of God in election, and of Jesus Christ in redemption, and of the Holy Spirit in sanctification; for election, redemption, calling, justification, pardon, adoption, and the whole of salvation from first to last are of grace and not of works.
