Religion says, ’Do For Your Salvation’. JESUS Says, ‘It Is Done By ME For Your Salvation!’

Leviticus 16:1-34 NIV

The Day of Atonement

1The LORD Spoke To Moses after the death of the two

sons of Aaron who died when they approached

The LORD.

2The LORD Said To Moses:

Tell your brother Aaron that he is not to

come whenever he chooses into the

Most Holy Place behind the curtain in

front of the Atonement Cover on the

Ark, or else he will die.

For I WILL Appear in the cloud over the

Atonement Cover.

3“This is how Aaron is to enter the Most Holy Place:

He must first bring a young bull for a sin offeringaand a ram for a burnt offering. 4He is to put on the sacred linen tunic, with linen undergarments next to his body; he is to tie the linen sash around him and put on the linen turban. These are sacred garments; so he must bathe himself with water before he puts them on. 5From the Israelite community he is to take two male goats for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering.

6“Aaron is to offer the bull for his own sin offering to make atonement for himself and his household.7Then he is to take the two goats and present them Before The LORD at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

8 He is to cast lots for the two goats—
one lot for The LORD and the other for the scapegoat.

9Aaron shall bring the goat whose lot falls To The LORD and sacrifice it for a sin offering. 10But the goat chosen by lot as the scapegoat shall be presented alive Before The LORD to be used for making atonement by sending it into the wilderness as a scapegoat.

11“Aaron shall bring the bull for his own sin offering to make atonement for himself and his household, and he is to slaughter the bull for his own sin offering. 12He is to take a censer full of burning coals from the altar Before The LORD and two handfuls of finely ground fragrant incense and take them behind the curtain.13He is to put the incense on the fire Before The Lord, and the smoke of the incense will conceal the atonement cover above the tablets of the Covenant Law, so that he will not die. 14He is to take some of the bull’s blood and with his finger sprinkle it on the front of the Atonement Cover; then he shall sprinkle some of it with his finger seven times before the Atonement Cover.

15“He shall then slaughter the goat for the sin offering for the people and take its blood behind the curtain and do with it as he did with the bull’s blood: He shall sprinkle it on the Atonement Cover and in front of it.

16 In this way he will make atonement for the Most Holy Place because of the uncleanness and rebellion of the Israelites, whatever their sins have been

He is to do the same for the tent of meeting, which is among them in the midst of their uncleanness. 17No one is to be in the tent of meeting from the time Aaron goes in to make atonement in the Most Holy Place until he comes out, having made atonement for himself, his household and the whole community of Israel.

18“Then he shall come out to the altar that is Before The LORD and make atonement for it. He shall take some of the bull’s blood and some of the goat’s blood and put it on all the horns of the altar. 19He shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times to cleanse it and to consecrate it from the uncleanness of the Israelites.

20“When Aaron has finished making atonement for the Most Holy Place, the tent of meeting and the altar, he shall bring forward the live goat. 21He is to lay both hands on the head of the live goat and confess over it all the wickedness and rebellion of the Israelites—all their sins—and put them on the goat’s head.

He shall send the goat away into the wilderness in the care of someone appointed for the task.

22 The goat will carry on itself all their sins to a remote place; and the man shall release it in the wilderness.

23“Then Aaron is to go into the tent of meeting and take off the linen garments he put on before he entered the Most Holy Place, and he is to leave them there. 24He shall bathe himself with water in the sanctuary area and put on his regular garments. Then he shall come out and sacrifice the burnt offering for himself and the burnt offering for the people, to make atonement for himself and for the people. 25He shall also burn the fat of the sin offering on the altar.

26“The man who releases the goat as a scapegoat must wash his clothes and bathe himself with water; afterward he may come into the camp. 27The bull and the goat for the sin offerings, whose blood was brought into the Most Holy Place to make atonement, must be taken outside the camp; their hides, flesh and intestines are to be burned up. 28The man who burns them must wash his clothes and bathe himself with water; afterward he may come into the camp.

29“This is to be a lasting ordinance for you: On the tenth day of the seventh month you must deny yourselvesc and not do any work—whether native-born or a foreigner residing among you— 30because on this day atonement will be made for you, to cleanse you. Then, Before The LORD, you will be clean from all your sins. 31It is a day of Sabbath rest, and you must deny yourselves; it is a lasting ordinance. 32The priest who is anointed and ordained to succeed his father as high priest is to make atonement. He is to put on the sacred linen garments 33and make atonement for the Most Holy Place, for the tent of meeting and the altar, and for the priests and all the members of the community.

34“This is to be a lasting ordinance for you:

Atonement is to be made once a year for all the sins of

the Israelites.”

And it was done, As The LORD Commanded Moses.

CHRIST and The Sacrificial Laws of The Old Testament

Hebrews 10:1-18

CHRIST’S Sacrifice Once for All

1The Law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. 2Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. 3But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins.

4 It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

5 Therefore, When CHRIST Came Into the world, HE Said:

“Sacrifice and offering YOU Did Not Desire,
   But A Body YOU Prepared for ME;
6 with burnt offerings and sin offerings
  YOU Were Not Pleased.

7 Then I Said, ‘Here I AM—It Is Written about

ME in the scroll— I Have Come To Do YOUR

Will, MY GOD.’ ”

8First HE Said,

“Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings YOU Did Not Desire, Nor Were YOU Pleased With them”

though they were offered in accordance with the law.

9Then HE Said,

“Here I AM, I Have Come To Do YOUR WILL.”

HE Sets Aside the first to establish the second.

10 And by that WILL, we have been made holy through the Sacrifice of The Body of JESUS CHRIST once for all.

11Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.

12But When This Priest Had Offered for all time One Sacrifice for sins, HE Sat Down at the Right Hand of GOD, 13and since that time HE Waits For HIS enemies to be made HIS Footstool. 14For by One Sacrifice HE Has Made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

15The HOLY SPIRIT also Testifies to us about this. First HE

16 “This is the Covenant I WILL Make With them
after that time, Says The LORD.
I WILL Put MY Laws in their hearts,
and I WILL Write them on their minds.”

17Then HE Adds:

“Their sins and lawless acts

I WILL Remember no more.”

18And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.

The Blood of JESUS: The Day of Atonement

Lev 17:11;

For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I Have Given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.
The life is in the blood; a gift from GOD; atonement for the soul. What made these sacrifices different was that they were not peoples gift to the god’s (other religions), but GOD’s gift to them. This was GOD’s Way of Dealing with sin, Gen 3:7-11, sacrifice brings it into the open only if we accept His Way of Doing It. This is why Cain’s sacrifice was rejected and Abel’s accepted: Blood. They both knew of GOD’s Gift to restore relationship with Him. Cain tried to copy Adam and Eve’s way in Gen 3:7 but GOD Wanted vs 21, this is what Abel did. GOD provided a way to reconnect with Him. He Initiated it because HE Wanted it. We love Him because HE Loved us first, 1 John 4:19.
JESUS Stood as hope for this and this is the same hope Abel stood for. Died for. Lets look at what this hope did. We know that JESUS Is this Hope, so we ask the question, What Did JESUS Do when HE Entered behind the veil in Heb 6:19?

Lev 16:1-27
Vs. 1: “Now The LORD spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered profane fire Before The LORD, and died;
It was given after the death of Aaron’s two sons, Nadab and Abihu. Many came and went, “because they were prevented by death from continuing” Heb 7:23.
  • This means that here is only one way GOD Accepts access into His Presence.
Vs. 2: “and The LORD Said To Moses: “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, lest he die; For I WILL Appear in the cloud above the mercy seat.”
Every time we enter into the presence, GOD WILL appear but we can’t come just as we want.
  • We can come as we are but not as we want” ~ Pr Mike Celestin.
Vs. 3: “ “Thus Aaron shall come into the Holy Place: with the blood of a young bull as a sin offering, and of a ram as a burnt offering.”
GOD Is Looking For something; Blood! You have to come by the Blood of JESUS.
  • Bull (The Sin Offering) = Unintentional Sin (Lev 4:2-27)
    • Covered 5 groups: (Jew & Gentile Eph 2:12-16)
      • A Person/Individual (vs 2)
      • A Minister (vs 3)
      • A Congregation/Church (vs 13)
      • A Ruler/Government (vs 22)
      • A Nation (vs 27)

  • Ram (The Burnt Offering) = Complete and Total with all parts presented. (Lev 1:3-8)
Lev 22:21 requires this sacrifice to be perfect, without blemish. These two offerings presented a
  1. Freely offered and willing substitute.
  2. Complete sacrifice for sin that covered the whole world (see above, 5 groups).
  3. Perfect sacrifice.

Who does this remind you of? JESUS! The FATHER Wanted a once a year sacrifice that reminded HIM of What Was in HIS Heart. What HE Wanted to do and was to ‘beget’ in due time. HE Was Asking, “Do you believe in What I Intend to do? In Whom I Intend to send? Will you demonstrate to ME your faith?”. You see, JESUS Was Slain from the foundation of the world. Where? In the Heart of The FATHER. Rev 13:8; 1 Peter 1:18-21.

Heb 9:27 tells us it’s appointed once for men to die, then after the judgement. Even so JESUS Died and Appeared Before GOD with the sin of mankind and was judged and bore the judgement. But His Blood Was Perfect to atone for all and was accepted
Vs. 4: “He shall put the holy linen tunic and the linen trousers on his body; he shall be girded with a linen sash, and with the linen turban he shall be attired. These are holy garments. Therefore he shall wash his body in water, and put them on.
This was not the usual High Priest attire (see Ex 39:1-31). This was the attire of the high priest in this once-a-year-service. He was not to be dressed up in his rich garments that were special to himself: He was not to put on the breastplate or ephod, with the precious stones in it, but only the linen clothes which He wore in common with the inferior priests. This humble dress was ordained for him on this one day of service to GOD; and, being thinner and lighter, He would in it be more expedite for the work or service of the day, which was all to go through his hands. JESUS, our High Priest, made atonement for sin in our nature; not in the robes of HIS Own Glory, which HE Had Before HE Came, but the linen garments of our mortality, clean and perfect.
Vs. 5-10: “And he shall take from the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats as a sin offering, and one ram as a burnt offering. “Aaron shall offer the bull as a sin offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself and for his house. He shall take the two goats and present them Before The LORD at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. Then Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats: one lot For The LORD and the other lot for the scapegoat. And Aaron shall bring the goat on which The LORD’S Lot Fell, and offer it as a sin offering. But the goat on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat shall be presented alive Before The LORD, to make atonement upon it, and to let it go as the scapegoat into the wilderness.

What was in HIS Hands? Two things.
    1. Our sins. HE Took our sin and Covered it with HIS Blood and sent it away, never to be found again. No matter how much satan looks for our sins, or our conscience bears witness against us, rest assured that “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions”.  Ps 103:11-14.
Vs. 12-13: “Then he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from the altar Before The LORD, with his hands full of sweet incense beaten fine, and bring it inside the veil. And he shall put the incense on the fire Before The LORD, that the cloud of incense may cover the Mercy Seat that is on the Testimony, lest he die.
After JESUS Cleanses us and Deals with our sins, HE does something amazing and continuous.
  1. His intercession. HE Prays for us, always and forever in Rom 8:31-39. Since The FATHER’S Life Is In HIM  and HE Lives because of The FATHER, JESUS WILL Give Life to all who come to HIM John 6:57. ‘Therefore HE Is Able to save to the uttermost those who come to GOD through Him, since HE always Lives to make intercession for them” Heb 7:25. JESUS Prays that the Mercies which are new every morning, Lam 3:22-23, will come upon us because of HIS Perfect and Complete Sacrifice. HIS Prayer for you entreats the whole of GOD’S Mercy for you.

That’s it your clean, your righteous! By JESUS and HIS Blood. GOD Accepts!
Vs. 14-19: “He shall take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it with his finger on the mercy seat on the east side; and before the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times. “Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering, which is for the people, bring its blood inside the veil, do with that blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat and before the mercy seat. So he shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions, for all their sins; and so he shall do for the tabernacle of meeting which remains among them in the midst of their uncleanness. There shall be no man in the tabernacle of meeting when he goes in to make atonement in the Holy Place, until he comes out, that he may make atonement for himself, for his household, and for all the assembly of Israel. And he shall go out to the altar that is before the Lord, and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the blood of the bull and some of the blood of the goat, and put it on the horns of the altar all around. Then he shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, cleanse it, and consecrate it from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.
Then JESUS Prepares and Provides a way of entrance to GOD’s Presence. Remember when Adam and Eve were exiled by way of the east in Gen 3:24? Even so JESUS Sprinkles the east side of the Mercy Seat and restores the way back in BY HIS BLOOD! HE Atones from the mercy seat all the way out to the bronze altar. Imagine every step you take back into GOD’S Presence, the blood saying, “MERCY!” Right from the beginning of your worship, look unto JESUS and come by HIS Blood, His Life, HIS Righteousness and HIS Finished Work! Look for the River of Blood that flows into HIS presence. The blood was sprinkled seven times (this is Pt. 3).
Vs. 21 & 27: “Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, concerning all their sins, putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable man. The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to an uninhabited land; and he shall release the goat in the wilderness. “Then Aaron shall come into the tabernacle of meeting, shall take off the linen garments which he put on when he went into the Holy Place, and shall leave them there. And he shall wash his body with water in a holy place, put on his garments, come out and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people. The fat of the sin offering he shall burn on the altar. And he who released the goat as the scapegoat shall wash his clothes and bathe his body in water, and afterward he may come into the camp. The bull for the sin offering and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the Holy Place, shall be carried outside the camp. And they shall burn in the fire their skins, their flesh, and their offal.”
As you come to HIM, HE Removes the very nature of sin from you. HE Sends it away and Burns it. HE WILL Remember it no more. You have it in you no more. Jer 31:34; Joel 3:21 (KJV).
Heb 9:28. HIS Blood Was Perfect to atone for all and was accepted. So HE WILL now Appear a second time and Bring salvation with HIM.
Religion says, ’Do’. JESUS Says, ‘Done!’
Now JESUS Asks us to follow HIM in Heb 10:19-25. So hold fast your confession without wavering saints, for HE WHO Promised Is Faithful.
