JESUS SON OF GOD, Have Mercy On Us

Psalm 123 NIV

A song of ascents.

1I lift up my eyes to YOU,

To YOU WHO Sit Enthroned in heaven.

2As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to The LORD our GOD,
till HE Shows us HIS Mercy.

3Have Mercy On us, LORD, Have Mercy On us,
for we have endured no end of contempt.

4We have endured no end
of ridicule from the arrogant,
of contempt from the proud.

This Psalm was penned at a time then Israel was brought low and trampled upon; some think it was when the Jews were captives in Babylon, though that was not the only time that they were insulted over by the proud.

The psalmist begins as if he spoke for himself only (v. 1), but presently speaks in the name of the people of Israel.

Here is,

I. Their expectation of Mercy from GOD (v. 1, 2).

II. Their plea for Mercy with GOD, (v. 3, 4).

In singing it we must have our eye up to GOD'S Favor with a holy concern, and then an eye down to men's reproach with a contempt.

Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem

Psalm 122 NIV

A song of ascents. Of David.

1I rejoiced with those who said to me,
“Let us go to the House of The LORD.”

2Our feet are standing
in Your Gates, Jerusalem.

3Jerusalem is built like a city
that is closely compacted together.

4That is where the tribes go up—
the tribes of The LORD
to praise The Name of The LORD
according to the Statute Given to Israel.

5There stand the thrones for judgment,
the thrones of the house of David.

6Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May those who love you be secure.

7May there be peace within your walls
and security within your citadels.”

8For the sake of my family and friends,
I will say, “Peace be within you.”

9For the Sake of The House of The LORD our GOD,

I will seek your prosperity.

This Psalm seems to have been penned by David for the use of the people of Israel, when they came up to Jerusalem to worship at the three solemn feasts. It was in David's time that Jerusalem was first chosen to be the city where GOD Would Put HIS Name.

It being a new thing, this, among other means, was used to bring the people to be in love with Jerusalem, as the holy city, though it was but the other day in the hands of the Jebusites.

I. The joy with which they were to go up to Jerusalem (v. 1, 2).

II. The great esteem they were to have of Jerusalem (v. 3-5).

III. The great concern they were to have for Jerusalem and the prayers they were to put up for its welfare (v. 6-9).

In singing this Psalm we must have an eye to the Gospel church, which is called the “Jerusalem that is from above.”

Meine Hilfe Kommt Von Dem Herrn - My Help Comes From JEHOVAH

Psalm 121 NIV

A song of ascents.

1I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?

2My help comes from The LORD,
The Maker of heaven and earth.

3HE Will Not Let your foot slip—
HE Who Watches Over you Will Not Slumber;

4indeed, HE WHO Watches Over Israel
Will neither Slumber nor Sleep.

5The LORD Watches Over you—
The LORD Is your Shade at your right hand;

6the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

7The LORD Will Keep you from all harm—
HE Will Watch Over your life;

8The LORD Will Watch Over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

Some call this the soldier's psalm, and think it was penned in the camp, when David was hazarding his life in the high places of the field, and thus trusted GOD to cover his head in the day of battle. Others call it the traveler’s psalm (for there is nothing in it of military dangers) and think David penned it when he was going abroad, and designed it for the carriage, for a good man's convoy and companion in a journey or voyage.

But wherever we are, at home or abroad, we are exposed to danger more than we are aware of; and this Psalm directs and encourages us to repose ourselves and our confidence in GOD, and by faith to put ourselves under HIS Protection and commit ourselves to HIS Care, which we must do, with an entire satisfaction.

In singing this Psalm,

I. David here assures himself of help from GOD (v. 1, 2).

II. He assures others of it (v. 3-8).

JESUS Answers Our Prayers

Psalm 120 NIV

A song of ascents.

1I call on The LORD in my distress,
and HE Answers me.

2Save me, LORD,
from lying lips
and from deceitful tongues.
3What Will HE Do To you,
and what more besides,
you deceitful tongue?
4HE Will Punish you with a warrior’s sharp arrows,
with burning coals of the broom bush.
5Woe to me that I dwell in Meshek,
that I live among the tents of Kedar!
6Too long have I lived
among those who hate peace.
7I am for peace;
but when I speak, they are for war.

This is the first of fifteen Psalms (Psalms 120-134) entitled “A Song of Degrees” (Psalm 121:1-literally, “A song for the degrees or ascents”.  It seems most probable they were designed for the use of the people when going up (compare 1Kings 12:27, 28) to Jerusalem on the festival occasions (Deuteronomy 16:16), three times a year.

David appears as the author of four, Solomon of one (Psalm 127:1), and the other ten are anonymous, probably composed after the Babylonian captivity.

In this Psalm the writer acknowledges GOD'S Mercy, prays for relief from a malicious foe, whose punishment he anticipates, and then repeats his complaint.

I Have Hidden YOUR WORD In My Heart That I Might Not Sin Against JEHOVAH

(This psalm is an acrostic poem, the stanzas of which begin with successive 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet; moreover, the verses of each stanza begin with the same letter of the Hebrew alphabet.)

Psalm 119 NIV

א Aleph

1Blessed are those whose ways are blameless,
who walk according to the Law of The LORD.
2Blessed are those who keep HIS Statutes
and seek HIM with all their heart—

3they do no wrong
but follow HIS Ways.
4YOU Have Laid Down Precepts
That Are To Be Fully Obeyed.
5Oh, that my ways were steadfast
in obeying YOUR Decrees!
6Then I would not be put to shame
when I consider all YOUR Commands.

This Psalm has several peculiarities. It is divided into twenty-two parts or stanzas, each of them denoted by the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Each stanza contains eight verses, and the first letter of each verse is that which gives name to the stanza. Its contents are mainly praises of GOD'S WORD, exhortations to its meditation, and reverence for it, prayers for its proper influence, and complaints of the wicked for despising it.

Blessed are those who are in the right way to heaven and happiness, which is JESUS CHRIST; the strait gate, and narrow way to eternal life; the Only True Way of Life and Salvation, in which way believers walk by faith. All out of this way are altogether become filthy; but all in this way are clean, even every bit: they are without spot and blemish, blameless and without fault, before the Throne of GOD and In HIS Sight; being washed from their sins in the Blood of The LAMB, and clothed with HIS Righteousness; and even "perfect" and complete in HIM.

These are also found in the way of their duty, and walk in all the Commandments and Ordinances of JEHOVAH, blameless before men, and are sincere and upright in the Sight of GOD.

Blessed are those who walk in the Law of JEHOVAH: within the boundaries and limits of it, according to its direction, as it is a rule of walk and conversation in the Hands of CHRIST The Lawgiver; and who continue to walk in it, as in a pleasant path, with great delight; and cheerfully obey its precepts, as influenced by the Love of GOD, and assisted by The HOLY SPIRIT and Grace of CHRIST. The word "Law", or "Doctrine", as it signifies, may design every revelation of the Divine Will; and even the Doctrine of CHRIST, which believers should abide in, and not transgress; and should walk uprightly according to the truth of it, and as becomes it, and as they are enabled to do.
