Blessed Is JESUS WHO Comes In The NAME of JEHOVAH

Psalm 118 NIV

1Give Thanks To The LORD, For HE Is Good;

HIS Love Endures forever.

2Let Israel say:

“HIS Love Endures forever.”

3Let the house of Aaron say:

“HIS Love Endures forever.”

4Let those who fear The LORD say:

“HIS Love Endures forever.”

5When hard pressed, I cried to The LORD;
HE Brought me into a spacious place.

6The LORD Is With me; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?

7The LORD Is With me; HE Is my Helper.
I look in triumph on my enemies.

8It is better to take refuge In The LORD
than to trust in humans.

9It is better to take refuge In The LORD
than to trust in princes.

10All the nations surrounded me,
but In The Name of The LORD I cut them down.

11They surrounded me on every side,
but In The Name of The LORD I cut them down.

12They swarmed around me like bees,
but they were consumed as quickly as burning thorns;
In The Name of The LORD I cut them down.

13I was pushed back and about to fall,
but The LORD Helped me.

14The LORD Is my Strength and my Defensea ;
HE Has Become my Salvation.

15Shouts of joy and victory
resound in the tents of the righteous:
“The LORD'S Right Hand Has Done Mighty Things!

16The LORD'S Right Hand Is Lifted High;
The LORD'S Right Hand Has Done Mighty Things!”

17I will not die but live,
and will proclaim What The LORD Has Done.

18The LORD Has Chastened me severely,
but HE Has Not Given me over to death.

19Open for me the gates of the righteous;
I will enter and give Thanks To The LORD.

20This is the Gate of The LORD
through which the righteous may enter.

21I will give you Thanks, For YOU Answered me;
YOU Have Become my Salvation.

22The Stone the builders rejected
Has Become the Cornerstone;

23The LORD Has Done this,
and It Is Marvelous in our eyes.

24The LORD Has Done it this very day;
Let us rejoice today and be glad.

25LORD, save us!
LORD, grant us success!

26Blessed Is HE WHO Comes In The Name of The LORD.
From the House of The LORD we bless YOU.

27The LORD Is GOD,
and HE Has Made HIS Light Shine on us.

With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession
up to the horns of the altar.

28YOU Are my GOD, and I will praise YOU;
YOU Are my GOD, and I will exalt YOU.

29Give Thanks To The LORD, For HE Is Good;

HIS Love Endures forever.

PSALM 118

It is probable that David penned this Psalm when he had, after many a story gained a full possession of the kingdom to which he had been anointed. He then invites and stirs up his friends to join with him, not only in a cheerful acknowledgment of GOD'S goodness and a cheerful dependence upon that goodness for the future, but in a believing expectation of the Promised MESSIAH, of WHOSE KINGDOM and HIS Exaltation to it.

To HIM, the prophet David here bears witness, in the latter part of the Psalm. CHRIST HIMSELLF Applies it to HIMSELF(Matthew 21:42).

JESUS Said to them,

“Have you never read in the Scriptures:

“The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; The LORD Has Done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes?”

And the former part of the Psalm may fairly, and without forcing, be accommodated to HIM and HIS undertaking. Some think it was first calculated for the solemnity of the bringing up of the Ark of JEHOVAH to the city of David, and was afterwards sung at the feast of tabernacles.

On whatever the occasion it was penned, we have in this Psalm;

I. David calls upon all about him to give to GOD the Glory of HIS Goodness (v. 1-4).

II. He encourages himself and others to trust in GOD, from the experience he has had of GOD'S Power and Pity in the great and kind things HE Has Done for him (v. 5-18).

III. He gives thanks for his advancement to the throne, as it was a figure of the Exaltation of CHRIST (v. 19-23).

IV. The people, the priests, and the psalmist himself, triumph in the prospect of The REDEEMER'S KINGDOM (v. 24-29).

In singing this Psalm we must glorify GOD for HIS Goodness to us, and especially HIS Goodness to us in JESUS CHRIST.

Amen.

Praise The LORD JESUS, all nations!

Psalm 117 NIV

1 Praise The LORDall you nations;

extol HIM, all you peoples.

2For Great Is HIS Love Toward us,
and the Faithfulness of The LORD Endures forever.

Praise The LORD

PSALM 117

This psalm is so short and  so sweet.

Here is,

I. A solemn call to all nations to praise GOD (v. 1).

II. Proper matter for that praise suggested (v. 2).

There is a great deal of Gospel in this psalm.

“Praise The LORD, all you nations;

Extol HIM, all you peoples.”

We have here,

I. The vast extent of the Gospel church, v. 1. For many ages in Judah only Was GOD Known and HIS Name Praised. The sons of Levi and the seed of Israel praised HIM, but the rest of the nations praised gods of wood and stone (Daniel 5:4).

But here all nations are called to praise The LORD, which could not be applied to the Old Testament times unless the people of the land became Jews and were circumcised; they were not admitted to praise GOD with them.

But the Gospel of CHRIST Is Ordered To Be Preached to all nations, and by HIM the partition-wall is taken down, and those that were afar off are made near. This was the Mystery which was hidden in prophecy for many ages, but was at length revealed in the accomplishment that the Gentiles should be co-heirs, Ephesians 3:3, 6.

Observe here,

1. Who should be admitted into the church-all nations and all people. The original words (גֹּויִ֑ם goim gentilesare the same that are used for the heathen that rage and the people that imagine against CHRIST (Psalm 2:1); those who had been enemies to HIS Kingdom should become HIS willing subjects. The Gospel of the Kingdom was to be preached to all the world, for a witness to all nations, Matthew 24:14; Mark 16:15.

2. How their admission into the church is foretold by a repeated call to praise HIM. The tidings of the Gospel, being sent to all nations, should give them cause to praise GOD; the institution of gospel-ordinances would give them opportunity to praise GOD; and the power of Gospel grace would give them hearts to praise HIM. Those are highly favored whom GOD invites by HIS WORD and inclines by HIS SPIRIT to praise HIM.

II. The unsearchable riches of Gospel grace, which are to be the matter or our praise, v. 2. In the Gospel, those celebrated Attributes of GOD, HIS Mercy and HIS Truth, Shine most brightly in themselves and most comfortably to us.  The apostle, where he quotes this psalm, takes notice of these as the two great things for which the Gentiles should glorify GOD (Romans 15:8, 9), for the Truth of GOD and for HIS Mercy. We that enjoy the Gospel have reason to praise The LORD,

1. For the Power of HIS Mercy: HIS Merciful Kindness Is Great Towards us; It Is Strong and Mighty for the pardon of mighty sins (Amos 5:12) and for the working out of a mighty salvation.

2. For the Perpetuity of HIS Truth: The Truth of The LORD Endures forever. It was mercy to the Gentiles that the Gospel was sent among them. The Jews were hardened and expelled, yet the promise took its effect in the believing Gentiles, the spiritual seed of Abraham. GOD'S Mercy is the fountain of all our comforts and HIS Truth the foundation of all our hopes, and therefore for both we must praise The LORD.

Amen.

JESUS Hears Our Voice, We Must Hear What HIS SPIRIT Says

Psalm 116 NIV

1I love The LORD, For HE Heard my voice;
HE Heard my cry for Mercy.

2Because HE Turned HIS Ear To me,
I will call on HIM as long as I live.

3The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came over me;
I was overcome by distress and sorrow.

4Then I called on The Name of The LORD:
LORD, Save me!”

5The LORD Is Gracious and Righteous;
our GOD Is Full Of Compassion.

6The LORD Protects the unwary;
when I was brought low, HE Saved me.

7Return to your rest, my soul,
For The LORD Has Been Good To you.

8For YOU, LORD, Have Delivered me from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling,

9that I may walk Before The LORD
in the land of the living.

10I trusted In The LORD when I said,
“I am greatly afflicted”;

11in my alarm I said,
“Everyone is a liar.”

12What shall I return To The LORD
for all HIS Goodness To me?

13I Will Lift Up the Cup of Salvation
and call on The Name of The LORD.

14I will fulfill my vows to The LORD
in the presence of all HIS people.

15Precious in the Sight of The LORD
is the death of HIS faithful servants.

16Truly I am YOUR servant, LORD;
I serve YOU just as my mother did;
YOU Have Freed me from my chains.

17I will sacrifice a thank offering to YOU
and call on The Name of The LORD.

18I will fulfill my vows to The LORD
in the presence of all HIS people,

19in the courts of The House of The LORD
in your midst, Jerusalem.

Praise The LORD.

PSALM 116

We have many reasons for loving The LORD, but we are most affected by HIS Loving-kindness when relieved out of deep distress. But let all such call upon The LORD to deliver their souls, and they will find HIM Gracious and True to HIS Promise. Neither ignorance nor guilt will hinder their salvation, when they put their trust in The LORD.

Let us all speak of GOD as we have found HIM; and have we ever found HIM otherwise than Just and Good? It is of HIS Mercies that we are not consumed. Let those who labor and are heavy laden come to The LORD JESUS, that they may find rest to their souls.

We should deem ourselves bound to walk as in HIS Presence. It is a great mercy to be kept from being swallowed up with over sorrow. It is a great mercy for GOD to hold us by the right hand, so that we are not overcome and overthrown by a temptation. But when we enter the heavenly rest, deliverance from sin and sorrow will be complete and we shall see The Glory of The LORD, and walk in HIS Presence with delight we cannot now conceive.
